GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Primary support person for Valve Clinic.  Responsible for providing professional nursing care for valve clinic patients, following established standards and practices.  Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, and staff in coordinating patient care.  Functions as primary liaison between valve clinic patients, staff and physicians.  Exhibits the values of respect, integrity, innovation and compassion.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to Nursing Supervisor

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supports the physicians in valve clinic and with hospital needs.
  2. Provides general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and as directed.
  3. Observes, records and reports patient’s condition, and reaction to drugs and treatment.
  4. Educates patients/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, diagnoses in both pre-operative and post-operative settings. Education and care of health and wellness until the patient has been released from valve clinic to their primary cardiologist.
  5. Ensure patient needs with urgent appointments, scheduling procedures/tests, reports results of test and incoming patient treatment-related phone calls are met. Completes forms for precertification, insurance/disability, etc. as necessary for pre and post-op valve procedures.
  6. Maintains/reviews patient records. Maintain/reviews spreadsheet to ensure that all pre-op and post-op testing, follow-ups, wound checks, etc are completed in a timely manner.
  7. Maintain national registries up-to-date of all structural procedures/patients.
  8. Diligent documentation in Nextgen so that all parties have access to information and patient plan. All tasks will be communicated through Nextgen.
  9. Ensures patient safety.
  10. Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPPA regulations are observed.
  11. Other job duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION:  RN license, BSN preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of one-year professional nursing experience, cardiac experience preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
  2. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  3. Knowledge of the HIPPA compliance procedures.

 

 

 

SKILLS:

  1. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care, identifying problems, and recommending solutions.
  2. Skill in preparing/maintaining records, reports and responding to correspondence.
  3. Basic computer skills.
  4. Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPPA regulations are observed.

ABILITIES:

  4. Ability to be flexible.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient medical records.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:  Combination of office and hospital settings.  Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinic and hospital environment.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:  Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.  Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
